Frederick met his wife whilst in the army on Salisbury Plain. He took over the forge at Bexley when his father died. He was a leading local figure in the Home Guard during World War 2. He had a military funeral, his coffin on a gun carriage, with six sergeants as pall bearers and four trumpeters sounding the Last Post.
