First Generation
1. Hugh PENFOLD [2766] married Sarah FATHERS [2767] on 21 May 1834 in Holy Trinity, Guildford, Surry, England, u. He died on 20 June 1849 in "St. Clements", Hastings, England, U.K.
Hugh Penfold occupation was Ironmonger, He was a batchelor of St. Clement
Hastings when he married in 1834.
Holy Trinity Church is a mid 18th Century red brick building in High St.
Guildford opposite Abbots Hospital wich was built in 1619.
Witness to the marriage was Richard Fathers, Susanna Penfold and Andrew Hooke.
They where married by licence.
Susanna was probably is Aunty his fathers sister.
In 1841 the family was living in George St. Hastings.

2. Richard Fathers PENFOLD [2193], son of Hugh PENFOLD [2766] and Sarah FATHERS [2767], married Fanny Olivia GOODERHAM [2774] on 31 July 1865 in Herstmonceux, Sussex, England. He married Elizabeth Grace COSS [2776] on 30 April 1873 in St James' Church, King Street, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. He died on 19 October 1905 in Waterloo, New South Wales, Australia. He was born on 10 April 1935 in Hastings, Sussex, England.
On his daughter's death certificate Richard's occupation was Sea Captain.
On his marriage to Fanny he states his occupation as Master Mariner and he lived St. Clement Danes Middlesex.
On 26 Jul 1893 Richard was declared Bankrupt, Ernest Robert Abigail of Newtown
was the plaintiff Richard was living at Canterbury total cost 6 pounds 6
shillings. Occupation Wood Cutter. On 13 Jun 1893 Richard was residing at Debtors prison Darlinghurst his usual residence being George St. Belmore.

In 1886 Richard occupation was Coal Merchant living at Balmain.
In 1873 at his marriage Richard residence was Gulgong occupation Gold Miner.
I have been told that when he was in Sydney he boarded with the Coss family at Balmain and this is where of course he met Elizabeth. Witness to the marriage where John Coss and Mrs. King.
At the time of his daughters marriage in 1903 Richard was a Retired Mariner,
living Waterloo.
I was told by Kevin Robinson, that he remembers his mother telling him about
Richard he always wore a white shirt button to the neck.
In July 1893 Occupation Woodcutter Canterbury.

address his wife Elizabeth Grace and son Joseph who's occupation was Dealer.
I have put this photo as Richard Fathers Penfold as I feel it fits his profile. It was given to me as John (Arthur) Robinson but I now have a more recent Photo and they do not look the same. I will try to get the photo's verified.

Matilda was living with her sister Sarah Jame Ballard in 1861, was not found in subsequent records.
5. Sarah Jane PENFOLD [2770], daughter of Hugh PENFOLD [2766] and Sarah FATHERS [2767], married George Henry BALLARD [2788] on 31 January 1861 in St. Clements Hastings Sussex England.
George Henry BALLARD [2788] was born in 1838 (approx.). He died in 1899.

15. Matilda Elizabeth PENFOLD [2704], daughter of Richard Fathers PENFOLD [2193] and Elizabeth Grace COSS [2776], was born on 21 September 1886 in Balmain, New South Wales, Australia. She married Ebernezer Frances ARMSTRONG [2794] on 30 April 1903 in The Mance, Cong. Church, Zetland. She died on 23 July 1966 in Prince Alfred Hospital, Camperdown, New South Wales, Australia. At some point she married Arthur Joseph ROBINSON [2705] .
Matilda lived at 18 Union St. Erskineville before her death. The informant was
a Marlene Attard (no relation). She was a widow.
At the time of her marriage in 1903 to Armstrong she was living at Waterloo
occupation Home duties.
There is no record of a marriage between Matilda and Arthur, all the children
where registered in the name Armstrong with no father mentioned. From Electrol
Rolls I have established Matilda was living with Arthur at the time of
Laurence's birth in Glebe.
Arthur Joseph ROBINSON [2705] was born on 24 November 1884 in Rose St., Darlington, New South Wales, Australia. He died on 18 January 1950 in 18 Union St., Erskinville, New South Wales, Australia.
John Joseps was known as Arthur was said to have been on the Sorbron as training ship for children with problems. Arthur lost his eye at school when a pencil was thrown into his eye.
His wife was the informant on his death certificate.
Lived at some time at Rosehill St. Redfern worked at W. Taylor's Queen St.

16. George Clement PENFOLD [2782], son of Richard Fathers PENFOLD [2193] and Elizabeth Grace COSS [2776], was born in 1889 in Hurstville. He married Alice May WEST [2795] in 1913 in Redfern, New South Wales, Australia. He died on 9 December 1967 in Newtown, New South Wales, Australia.
George used to sell rabbits in the Mascot area a pair for 1 shilling and 3
pence.

Upholster wife Maud. There was a death notice in the S.M.H 9.2.1937 check this
to see if we can prove if this is our George.

The original home 15 Frogmore St is still there. I remember visiting Pop & Nan when he was still selling rabbits from his horse and buggy. The horse was in the small stable in the back yard with the buggy nearby. Dad told me he was a kind man. If there was a family struggling with little or no money, he would give the rabbits to them free. He never drank or smoked remember.

Note by Hilton Penfold:
Died around 1971 of cancer with a tuma of the brain. I remember visiting him at the coast hospital about 1970. He was a Senior Sgt in the NSW Police force.
Norma Jean KENT [2810] was born on 7 May 1937. She died on 29 May 2005.
30. Kenny PENFOLD [2807], son of George Clement PENFOLD [2796] and Elsie Mary WATERS [2805], was born on 20 April 1936. He died in 2010.
